Let’s give this a go. This blog thing that is...
We have had supporters who have voiced their wishes that there was another way to get updates aside from Facebook, Instagram, X, and the like. I can understand the concerns with social media. So, it takes a lot of time to email individual people often. I truly enjoy the one on one conversations via email, text message, and sometimes phone calls. I am simply too busy most of the time and I feel bad when I can’t stay in touch more than a sentence or two. It’s even harder now with the lack of employees and volunteers. You’ll hear that a lot here, unfortunately.
After 11 years of being here at the sanctuary… There are so many things that I’d love to share. I can’t promise people are going to like it. I really don’t care though. It seems people don’t like the blunt truths that are, but it’s time. I’m blunt. It comes with being a grey-haired old lady! HAHA!
Sanctuary life can be a very unappreciated life where many people think they can be highly disrespectful towards us. Well, this is called “Kirah’s Corner”, and I’ve been here long enough to have the honor to provide the stories behind many of the decisions we’ve made here at Project Perry. I am also pleased to shame those who think they’re just going to get away with being a POS. Matt would love to write a book, but when does he have the time without quality employees or volunteers here? (There it is again, HAHA!) That’s one of the major reasons the direction of the sanctuary has changed. Make no mistake, the sanctuary isn’t going anywhere, but we are moving forward responsibly and with the bird’s best interests and safety in mind. They are the ones that matter.
That being said, there are more AMAZING people in this life who make it all worth it. They are the ones who deserve all of the explanations I am willing to provide as I see fit. Donors are the life blood of Project Perry and we truly love them! It seems like it is easier to focus on the bad things. That is just the way life is. I see the good though, and I focus on that more and more. Especially after having and beating cancer. I have my moments, but there are so many good things, so much beauty, so much LOVE!
So in this blog there will be stories that are happy, sad, frustrating… they’ll all be here. Maybe even off the wall things that make us all say… “’wth’ was the point of that story?” It just is…
This is a blog after all. I’ll try to keep it as PG as possible…I hope that it offers insight into the reality of this line of work over time as I share more as I feel comfortable/see fit to share.
